| What's a muse ? o.0 I see it being used all the time and yet, I don't know what it is. I feel like a total noob when I see it. | ||

A muse (although technically any of the nine daughters of [Greek Goddess] Mnemosyne and [Greek God] Zeus, each of whom presided over a different art or science) for writers is typically a combination of two things. A guiding spirit, and a source of inspiration. When a writer or roleplayer lacks one of these, or suffering from writer’s block, you may hear “I have no muse!” quite a bit. Some writers don’t believe in it, some do. It’s really a personal belief/opinion.
| I try reaching out to people by asking them if they want to rp with me, and they say they will. Though after a few posts they kind of forget about our rp. :( It especially sucks because my character is an oc, so I can't exactly join a fandom group...I just really want to rp.... | ||

Have you tried reaching out to other people you haven’t ever RP’d with before? Because if the it’s just the same thing over and over, they may just not be as dedicated as you are.
| I've had a roleplay partner who I met through a site for the last six to seven months. I really enjoy roleplaying with her, plus our characters click well and share a lot in common, and I love talking to her OOC. However, I've recently begun finding myself annoyed with her main character whose past approaches the level of Tragic Mary Sue. It seems every conversation uncovers a new trauma from her past that just serves to make me roll my eyes and ask "really?" Any thoughts on how to proceed? | ||

Be honest with them. Especially if it’s a real life site - realism is key to those sites. While a lot of tragedy can happen to one person, there is a limit when it comes to roleplaying. While in real life it might be defining, and character building, in roleplaying it just pushes away plots. So I’d definitely speak up and discuss it with them.
| So, I just joined a new RP, but I've never RP'd before! I don't know the lingo (like OOC, etc) or really how to RP at all. It's based on a show, so I know which characters to interact with, but I don't really get how it works. Help? | ||

I can’t give you a rundown, because really there’s so much stuff. I’d suggest just checking out different sites to see how it’s done. There’s also places like Caution with their RPG Crashcourse. And this site covers a lot of the ‘lingo’.
| It seems everytime I start getting into an rp, the other person grows bored of it and starts avoiding it and coming up with excuses all the time. Should I just give up on these rps or what can I do? | ||

That’s really up to you. If you want to continue - try speaking with them on ways to make it more interesting for them and you so you’re both satisfied with still carrying on with the thread.
| Ok, how would you say is the easiest way to get into Rping smut? I always don't like to do it on boards, kind of afraid that others will be reading my work. (I'm kind of guilty on caring what others are gonna say.) Thanks for your advice!!! | ||

i am a great advocate for vicarious learning. also, much like the approach to such a topic in real life, only do as much as you are comfortable with. if you don’t want to be so open about it on the boards, fade to black in the posts and perhaps go into whatever detail you want to privately (ie through private messages). then gradually build up to whatever you’d be comfortable with.
as i’ve said before the rping community is generally pretty open minded and nice. further, if they’re going to judge how you rp from your smut threads then they’re probably not worth getting to know and rp with anyway.
another honest truth, i personally rarely bother spending the time to read other people’s threads in too much detail. i’ll just skim through them once in a while if i’m an admin or if i’ve potentially got a plot with the character, but otherwise (as a member) i won’t read through every thread one by one. i can’t imagine many other people having the time to do s either, so honestly the only person who’s really going to read you thread will be your rp partner.

| Hey! I have this question concerning people I RP with. A few of them always make fun of the other characters (like 2 of them with 4 characters they mock). They always criticize, but never look at themselves. Its like we can never please them.... Oh and both are admins. How would you go and handle this? | ||

honestly, if you feel comfortable telling them directly about it, do so. explain that no one’s perfect and highlight the merits of those characters. don’t use attacking language and criticise their behaviour, just try to show them how such might not be fostering a good environment for the members and how it’s not very nice. if you’re not so comfortable doing it yourself, you can either post it anonymously through a guest account (if it’s on a hosted site, but just know that admins can find ip addresses) and like it back to you, or i believe you can approach the staff of caution for help.
we rarely recommend breaking ties with a site because of difficulties but if you feel that the attitude of the admins is something you cannot stand for, it may just be a better option for you to find somewhere else to role-play. there is a great diversity of role-plays out there and many lovely people, that kind of horribleness just shouldn’t be put up with really.

| I want to get started on roleplaying again and I wanted to know where tostart. Should I make an account and pick my person I want to role play as? If yes, what should I do after that? How do I begin? | ||

Since you said again, I’m going to assume that you’ve roleplayed before. Not much has changed to be honest, it’s very much like riding a bicycle. If you’re talking about tumblr rp, I don’t rp on tumblr and cannot offer you much advice on the processes on that. If, however, you role-play on hosted sites then (as I’ve said a lot of the time) the best advice i can give is get as involved as possible, plot with as many people as you can, and just have a blast.

| Not really advice, but I was just wondering, do many non-rpers follow rpgs as well? | ||
